Tell us a little bit about yourself? How did you become interested in illustration/art?

I grew up in an artistic family and was encouraged to draw & paint from a very young age. Drawing was always the first thing I’d do when I was excited about something…from drawing skateboarders and basketball players, to designing sneakers and dream skateparks. I still do the same to this day and am very fortunate to have made a career from doing so.

What inspires you/your art?

I’m inspired heavily by where we live; in the very south of England, in Cornwall. We live on the harbour of a small, but very busy, coastal town – Falmouth. I love the landscape around our home; swimming, walking and running along the coast.

I’ve traveled a lot with work and always find inspiration in experiencing new cultures and different landscapes. A particular reference point of mine are vintage travel posters. I love the limited colour palettes, the traditional printing techniques, the layered compositions and the sense of ‘place’ these artworks have.

Tell us about the collaboration with Regatta on their two campaigns? How did it come about?

The team at Regatta originally reached out in early 2018, to discuss collaborating, with the aim of capturing the sailing roots of Regatta and the spirit of the brand. Being based where I am, and always being naturally drawn to the ocean, the aesthetic and partnership felt like a perfect fit.

I created 2 initial artworks in 2018 and we’ve since added to the series with a further 2 pieces. The artworks focus on sailing, the lifestyle, and the small details and quiet moments that capture the feeling of a day on the water.

What about the Regatta Craft Mixers as a brand influenced your illustrations?

The scenes and situations that Regatta Craft Mixers are enjoyed in, are moments that I’m very drawn to: sunsets by the ocean, an afternoon on a pontoon, spending relaxed time with friends, etc. I enjoyed having the opportunity to create a world where these moments all exist, developing the colour palette that aims to evoke the fresh feeling of being near the water and capturing the light and shadows from the afternoon sunlight.

What is your favorite cocktail?

A classic G&T is always a go to in our house…but recently, a negroni is my favourite!

Describe the ultimate scene for enjoying cocktails with friends and/or family– outdoor? Near/on the water?, weather?, etc.

There are a few secret coves near our home in Cornwall, in the summer we scramble down through trees onto an overhang, and dive off the rocks – we often take a picnic with friends, or pack up our dinner whilst it’s still hot and take it with us for the evening. It’s probably my favourite situation to have a cocktail; watching the day’s sailors drifting back in for the night and staying until we get cold!
